Honeywell Lead R&D Engineer/Scientist in Plymouth, Minnesota
As a Lead R&D Engineer/Scientist you will be responsible for leading research and development activities in the area of autonomy and navigation. You will utilize your technical expertise in areas related to navigation, system/software design, data analysis, algorithm development, or related fields to contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge technologies. Your role will involve designing and conducting experiments, simulations, and analyses to drive the development of new navigation technologies and products.
As part of the Navigation, Controls, and Surveillance team within Advanced & Applied Technology, you will be at the forefront of research to drive autonomy and navigation work for our customers. A primary focus of your job will be on the development of alternative navigation systems to help create novel solutions to navigate when GNSS is unavailable. You will play a crucial role in driving technological advancements, shaping the future of the company, and contributing to Honeywell's commitment to addressing global challenges through innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a technical team conducting research and development related to navigation and autonomy
Propose new technologies and lead the technical work for small technology teams (6-8 people)
Design, develop, and test navigation systems for ground and air platforms to support autonomous operation of these vehicles
Develop new algorithms to enhance navigation capabilities including AI/ML algorithms
Conduct software and hardware integration of navigation systems and sensors
Understand customer needs and interface with customers as a key technical focal
Lead proposal efforts to win new business
Travel: 0 - 15% may be required

The annual base salary range for this position is $131,000- 161,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience, or PhD degree with 2+ years of experience in a technical discipline such as robotics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, or similar
Strong technical background in areas such as navigation, Kalman filtering, sensing and estimation, software development, system engineering, sensor integration, hardware testing, or related fields
Strong capability with C/C++ and Python or Matlab
Ability to interface with customers and adapt to customer needs
WE VALUE
Advanced degree in an engineering or related field with experience and interest in research
Experience with Kalman filters, inertial measurement units, and a deep knowledge of error modeling for various sensors
Experience with alternative navigation including magnetic anomaly aided navigation
Experience with novel AI/ML algorithms with the ability to integrate these into navigation systems
Capability to integrate multiple sensors into a larger system
Good communication skills and ability to interface with the business as a technical leader
Ability to learn new skills as needed on projects
