Honeywell Lead Optical Design Engineer in Plymouth, Minnesota

You will be leading the optical design process developing cutting-edge aerospace solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define optical requirements and specifications.

Design and develop aircraft lighting systems and perform optical analysis and simulations using Light Tools or similar simulation programs to ensure product performance and reliability. Your expertise in optical design principles and methodologies, along with your proficiency in optical design and simulation tools, will enable you to effectively lead and guide the optical design process. You will be engaged in the entire design process, from concept proposal to production, ensuring that projects are completed within the specified timeframes and budgets while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

The position requires knowledge of, and substantial experience in, optical physics & the principles of illumination system design & manufacture, inclusive of appropriate optical design software, understanding of refractive and reflective optics, as well as state-of-the-art light source technologies, i.e. LEDs, lasers, fiber optics, etc.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform design, development, and manufacture of state-of-the-art aircraft lighting systems with specific responsibility for optical components associated with products for commercial and military aerospace applications.

  • Lead the optical design process, from concept to production.

  • Perform optical analysis and simulations using Light Tools to ensure product performance and reliability.

  • Opto-mechanical tolerance analysis

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define optical requirements and specifications.

  • Design and develop complex optical systems, components, and assemblies.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers.

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics

  • 6+ years of experience in optical design and development

  • Strong knowledge of optical design principles and methodologies

  • Proficiency in optical design software and simulation tools such as Light Tools

  • Experience with optical testing and characterization.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
