Description KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications. Recommend design changes for improvement of future product Conduct troubleshooting of engineering design and test problems. Perform service work and provide customer design support as required. Reads and interprets blueprints; checks shop orders to ensure that all necessary parts and accessories are readily available; and finds all necessary parts and accessories that are not with the current parts. Positions parts and examines connections for correct fit; resolves assembly and production issues; reports quality issues and errors in production line; and informs supervisor of any shortages in parts or hardware Uses appropriate tools to assemble and fasten all parts and wiring on the fan assembly per TCF engineering and quality standards. Test run fan on balancing machine to check possible defects such as proper torque, belt tension, clearance, etc. Utilize proper techniques. Operate air / electric tools, hand tools may vary depending on plant location. Performs simple and complex analysis of product malfunctions including complete startup check from alignment, balance, and assembly points of view. Responsibilities may vary based on specific job assignments Perform bearing selections, drive selections, etc. as needed to support projects / customer orders. Capture design intent with spreadsheets, drawing markups, and computer aided design tools as needed. Develop models and detail drawings of fan components and assemblies personally and/or by working through others. Research new technology to be used in the development of new products. With guidance, designs and models prototype fan components and assemblies. Develop test plans and review results for compliance with engineering design principles and customer requirements. QUALIFICATIONS: BS in mechanical engineering or equivalent. 1 year of relevant experience preferred. Able to work independently with minimal instruction. Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel and general computer usage. High mechanical aptitude and ability to learn all elements of fan construction. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written in English. Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to read a tape measure. Ability to use tools in a safe and proper manner. Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time, mostly on 2-4-day trips, but occasionally longer PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in FEA stress and modal analysis a plus. Experience in design and/or test engineering in the air moving industry. Proficient in the use of design tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, MSOffice applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc. Experience with MS Project is desirable.
