"Job#: 2044814 Job Description: Senior Design Engineer Experience with vacuum technology to perform engineering and project management activities for design, development, application,manufacture, assembly, test, installation, and servicing of High Voltage Switchgear Division (HVSD) products.Essential FunctionsPerform engineering activities that support the design, development, and manufacture of new HVSD products and the advancement of existing circuit breaker products.Engineer new designs to meet requirements specified by customer and/or industry specifications.Perform validation of new, modified and prototype designs for functional performance, manufacture, assembly, and service. Direct and perform analyses of operational, test, and research data to establish performance criteria.Develop, prepare, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), design drawings, and breaker Instruction Books (IBs). Direct and supervise the preparation of drawings required to support order placement, manufacturing/assembly operations, and customer software needs.Approve and/or provide any special customer design options including both mechanical and electrical items.Lead root cause evaluations of Category I failures or other defects as assigned.Originate, select, and/or maintain Purchasing Specifications for all components of HVSD products.Initiate and review relevant studies by Power Systems Engineering Division (PSED).Conduct product, technology, and other training as required.Develop and design U.S. components to replace imported components.Provide support to other HVSD departments in the areas of production, product documentation, vendor qualification, field service, customer specifications review and technical consultation.Further the goals and positive, professional image of the HVSD Engineering Department through interaction with otherHVSD Departments and vendors.QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years' experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience.Advanced knowledge of circuit breaker technology, design and power transmission.Experience and deep knowledge of vacuum interruption theory.Design, development, analysis and/or testing experience that demonstrates experience addressing the unique challenges of vacuum application to transmission-level circuit breakers.Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees, and suppliers.Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.Ability to read, understand and create technical drawings and material.Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on Microsoft Office products, CAD software, and ERP/MRP systems.EEO EmployerApex Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
