Duties Description Working closely with the department chairperson(s), faculty, and staff, this position will handle telephone calls, office visits, processing of mail, reproducing documents as necessary and the scheduling of appointments. This position will also have responsibility for preparing and processing reports and forms, maintenance of budget records and inventory of office supplies, preparing personnel documents, and assigning advisees. Other duties are expected to include, but are not limited to, oversight of student employees, completion of purchase requisitions and travel arrangements, assisting with course scheduling and room assignments, and solving other office or software problems that may arise. Minimum Qualifications Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant to civil service lawA demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individualsMust pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates the ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy by completion of probationFor those currently on a civil service list:If you receive an emailed canvass letter, you must respond interested and complete an online application to be considered.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.Minimum Qualifications for applicants not currently civil service eligible for the title:Administrative Assistant Trainee 1 – Six months of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g., email, word processing), provision of customer service, business writing, and/or office administration. To be advanced to the full performance level of this title you must successfully complete a set training and development program. Upon satisfactory completion of the 12-month training at the Trainee 1, you will automatically advance to Trainee 2.Administrative Assistant Trainee 2 – One year of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g., email, word processing), provision of customer service, business writing, and/or office administration. To be advanced to the full performance level of this title you must successfully complete a set training and development program. Upon satisfactory completion of the 12-month training as a Trainee 2 you will advance to the full level of this title without further examination.Administrative Assistant 1 – Two years of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g., email, word processing), provision of customer service, business writing, and/or office administration. Certification (e.g., IAAP Certified Administrative Professional) or associate’s degree in office administration, secretarial science, administrative assistance, paralegal, business technology, or office technology substitutes for two years of experience.

Additional Comments This position acts as the main clerical support for the Psychology Department and for the Center for Neurobehavioral Health programs. Often the first point of contact for these areas, this position will be responsible for creating a positive impression and having a customer-centered service approach at all times, while also completing required tasks in a timely manner. The Psychology department is part of the School of Arts & Sciences which provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We develop students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively, and are broadly educated.
