Job Summary and Qualifications

The Infection Prevention Coordinator effectively implements and coordinates the program of infection prevention, and surveillance approved by the Infection Prevention Committee in order to support the mission, vision and values of Medical City Plano. The Specialist supports the staff and physicians primary commitment to protect the health, safety and rights of the individual, family or community. Responsibilities include the prevention of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) by isolating sources of infections and limiting their spread; systematically collects, analyzes and interprets health data in order to plan, implement, evaluate and disseminate appropriate health practices; and trains healthcare staff through instruction and dissemination of information on infection prevention practices. The specialist will rapidly recognize and respond to emerging infectious diseases, outbreaks, and exposures and will serve as a content expert in infection related matters. Will provide consultation to staff, patients, and visitors and is responsible for ensuring full compliance of regulatory requirements within the hospital. Requires basic understanding of microbiology and infectious diseases.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN), RN, Master of Public Health (MPH), a bachelor degree in Medical Technology (MT-ASCP) or other healthcare related field.

(RN’s must be Registered Nurse in the state of Texas or compact state license / Examiners for the State of Texas if applicable)

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required in 2 years

  • Minimum of 3 years acute care hospital experience

  • Broad knowledge and familiarity with healthcare-related regulatory and accreditation requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of database systems

  • Possesses strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
