System Administrator

 

Health Sciences IT (HSIT) is seeking a Systems Administrator in Research IT. HSIT provides technology support for the six schools of the Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. The candidate will work with project teams to define systems requirements for research analytics. The systems admin will create file shares on enterprise storage and handle permissions, request virtual machines to spec to support researchers analysis, patch OSes, install applications on servers, and troubleshoot issues for researchers involving the shares and servers. The incumbent will work with both on-prem virtual machines as well as Azure and AWS services, such as Storage accounts, App services, S3 Buckets, Lambda functions, and logic apps. The candidate must be able to communicate with study teams and other non-technical people to understand their objectives to provide a solution that will meet their needs. The candidate must have 3 years of experience in systems administration or a systems analyst role. The ideal candidate will have experience with VMWare, Azure, and AWS. Must have experience administering Linux and Windows systems and understand networking concepts. VMWare Horizon, HPC, and working with research teams is a plus but not required.

Job Summary

Installs, configures, and maintains servers within a large unit or department or more than one small unit or department. Performs complex server and infrastructure tasks and maintenance. Provides end user support for complex issues. Configures and maintains operating system enhancements and performs software installations and upgrades.

Essential Functions

Create file shares on enterprise storage and handle permissions. Request virtual machines to spec to support researchers analysis. Perform patching operations. Install applications on servers and troubleshoot issues for researchers involving the shares and servers. Ensure standard configs that are compliant. Document configurations for redundancy. Troubleshoot connectivity issues. Communicate with study teams and other non-technical people to understand their requirements.

Physical Effort

Light, Little physical effort. Duties are primarily Sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
