Hitachi Rail STS USA SENIOR TELECOMS ENGINEER in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Senior Telecoms Engineer.  This position is for a roving employee who will work in unanticiapted locations throughout the United States.  The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location.  The Senior Telecoms Engineer will design and commission telecommunication technologies to comply with the contractual requirements of time, quality, and cost.  Specific duties include: (1) ensuring the identification, allocation, traceability and fulfillment of the contractual requirements; (2) ensuring the execution of the verification activities on issued documents and in accordance with the V&V Plan;  (3) guaranteeing the continuous updating of the standard design in accordance with technology innovation; (4) planning, executing, monitoring and controlling design configuration, test and commissioning activities for the telecommunication system according to the overall program schedule; (5) analyzing technology environment; (6) identifying, analyzing and managing requirements; (7) identifying and resolving interfaces internal and external to the telecommunication system (e.g. Signaling, CW, Rolling Stock, etc.); (8) architecting and integrating medium complex telecommunications systems with particular attention to networking technologies; (9) preparing conceptual preliminary, detailed and installation design for each telecom and security technology according to the project design schedule and compliance with project requirements and company guidelines; (10) participating in product selection; and (11) creating Bill of Materials and supporting Purchasing Department to order equipment for the wired and wireless telecommunication networks.

This position is for a roving employee who will work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location.

Must have a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering, or Information Technology and three years of experience as a telecommunications or network engineer in or for the railway industry.

Must have 2 years of experience with: (1) passenger information systems technologies; (2) complex network design (wired and wireless); (3) network architecture design; (4) RAMS deliverable; (5) managing small-medium sized projects and project teams; (6) sophisticated test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers; and (7) handling electric, electronic, and mechanical drawings and schematics.

Must have knowledge of or experience with: (1) principles of wireless system design including MIMO communication, co-channel and adjacent channel interference, best practices for frequency and bandwidth planning for RF and digital systems design, Wi-Fi and wired LAN design practices such as scalability, security, reliability and high availability, methods, terminology and trends in communications engineering including the fields of radio frequency allocations, electromagnetic wave propagation, and radio frequency field strength measurements and tolerances; (2) fiber optics, computers, digital communications processors, servers, programming, applications, software, and hardware related to radio communications; (3) switching and routing protocols for networked systems such as VLANs, OSPF, BGP, RIP, TCP/IP , IEEE standards 802.2 , 802.11; (4) wireless communications in demanding scenarios; and (5) testing and commissioning processes including factory acceptance testing (FAT) followed by reviewing reports after onsite installation and configuration, site acceptance testing (SAT), site integration testing (SIT), and final documentation preparation and handover at each of these phases.
