TEKsystems Senior Network Engineer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Description:

The Sr Network Engineer will provide technical expertise, strategic planning, and recommendations to management for new technologies for network and telecommunication applications in response to business needs. The Sr Network Engineer works with internal partners to develop and build solutions for business and customer requirements that will integrate with, and enhance, network and telecommunication infrastructure.

In addition, the Sr Network Engineer will apply complex design principles and methodologies to ensure cost-effective building and operating of technology infrastructure and services, and optimal use of resources and technology without jeopardizing network integrity. The individual will aid in the evaluation of alternative technologies and architectures for campus infrastructure. The individual will also interface with the Network Architect, management, and vendors to build and deploy new solutions to meet business requirements.

The individual will be responsible to build and manage the rollout of critical network infrastructure to support the University network / telecommunication services, on both a strategic (long-term) and tactical (immediate-term) level. This includes performing analytical, technical, cost analysis, and development work in the planning, building, and installing of services/solutions/technologies. It also includes ensuring that network infrastructure is fully documented and performing as required, for internal and customer SLA guarantees and expectations, by means of specific metrics and measurements to the campus community.

Required Skills

Extensive knowledge of principles, methodologies and procedures utilized in administering and monitoring network and telecommunication procedures.

Analyzes University needs regarding use of network and telecommunication equipment and services, and provides planning, leadership, direction, and technical expertise to the campus on LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and VoIP services.

Must be able to work with people at all levels of the organization, manage multiple Initiatives with deadlines, respond quickly to new changing situations and work well under pressure while maintaining Individual and team effectiveness.

Extensive understanding of network design principles and how to leverage them at all layers of network infrastructure, including core, edge, and border components, research infrastructure, security infrastructure, virtualization, cloud, and convergence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Tier 3 network and telecommunication support for the campus community

2 Evaluate alternative technologies and architectures in relation to the University's Infrastructure needs. Interface with the Network Architect, management, and vendors to build and implement new solutions to meet business requirements.

3 Provide technical expertise to the campus community to aid in the development of new product strategies and enhance existing product sets.

4 Ensure that network infrastructure is fully documented and performing as required, for Internal and customer SLA guarantees and expectations, by means of specific metrics and measurements.

5 Participates in strategic and long-range planning for campus network and telecommunication services

6 Build and manage the rollout of critical network infrastructures to support the University network and telecommunication services, on both a strategic (long-term) and tactical (immediate-term) level.

7 Perform analytical, technical, cost analysis, and CAPEX/OPEX development work in the planning, building, installing, and on-going administration and management of core data networks.

8 Performance reporting and tuning for all network / telecommunication equipment and services
