Research Technician

 

The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Center Translational Immuno-Informatics Lab (TIILab, URL: https://www.tiilab.org/ - https://www.tiilab.org/ ) is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Research Technician to support our cutting-edge cancer research and developmental therapeutic efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of wet-lab experiments and processing clinical specimens to support ongoing research studies, including translational in vitro /ex vivo /in vivo experiments in lab and specimens from clinical trials. This role requires expertise in laboratory techniques, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory safety and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct wet-lab experiments such as cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, slide staining, microscopy imaging, western blotting, PBMC processing, etc.
  • Process and manage clinical specimens, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and storage
  • Maintain accurate and details records of experiments and sample processing
  • Perform quality control checks on equipment and reagents, and ensure timely ordering of supplies
  • Assist in the development and optimization of experimental protocols
  • Collaborate with research team members to analyze data and contribute to publications
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations
  • Train and supervise junior lab members and students

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field required
  • Masters degree is preferred
  • Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques, such as cell culture is preferable
  • Experience working with human specimens is preferable but not required. Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

Essential Functions

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is required. Must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain meticulous records.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
