Quality Manufacturing Inspector

Description

Perform duties related to inspection through all phases of the manufacturing process as dictated by the Quality Assurance Manual. Incoming inspection, in-process and return inspection procedures on all products to determine conformity to product drawings and categorize as required. Assist Engineering and Production Department personnel relative to quality related matters as required.

Duties

  • Conducting first piece, and final inspection on all products/springs prior to placement into inventory for shipment
  • Identify products that do not have product number tags attached and assist in identifying products that are improperly tagged
  • Inspect, by percentage sampling and document first piece dimensional checks all products for conformity to product drawings
  • Utilize inspection tools, (IE: gages, templates, micrometers, tapes, etc.)
  • Understand Calibration and criteria for instrument recall to assist Quality Manager
  • Determine quality of products during inspection procedure and classify as acceptable, rework, or scrap
  • Categorize rework and/or scrap products according to defects, i.e. crack, low heels, turned ends, bent, burrs, incomplete processing, etc.
  • Conduct, oversee and document 100% inspection as required. Which requires physically lifting parts, weights could reach up to 75-80 lbs. per part.
  • Conduct and document sample part inspections as required.
  • Conduct and document in process (hot) inspection.
  • Conduct daily Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing by percentage sampling quenched springs and other products as required
  • Conduct percentage sampling inspections on products purchased from outside sources to determine conformity to product drawings and or written specification
  • Inspect all return shipments, regardless of reason for return, to verify quality and quantity
  • Assist in conducting special inspections on new product prototypes as requested with Quality Manager
  • Meet on with Quality Manager to review quality related matters
  • Participates in special projects/Lean Activities which may include analysis and performs other duties as assigned
  • Continually review control plans and procedures for changes that may be required for process and communicate to Quality Manager

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma OR GED OR six months to one year related experience
  • Heat Treat experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to work in an environment of extreme heat and cold
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment
