Duties/ Responsibilities
- Lead research projects focused onapplying advancedmachine learning techniquesand statistical models to analyze accelerometer data to uncover patterns and trends related toenergy expenditure, physical activity intensity, and obesity in children with disabilities.
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify challenges and opportunities in wearable technology use among individuals with disabilities.Collaborate with key stakeholders--- including individuals with disabilities, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers --- to understand real-world barriers and facilitate the adoption of wearable tech applications for individuals with disabilities.
- Engage in interdisciplinary research collaborationwith other scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals to ensure that the solutions developed are both technically robust and aligned with the specific needs and preferences of end-users.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences,contributing to the broader body of knowledge in wearable data analysis and modeling for individuals with disabilities.
- Mentor graduate students and research assistants,providing guidance on project design, data analysis, and dissemination of results while fostering an inclusive and collaborative research environment.
- Assist with grant writing, project reporting, and documentation, including contributing to the development of research proposals, drafting sections related to methodology, impact, and innovation, and compiling supporting data. Assist in preparing progress reports, final reports, and other documentation required by funding agencies, ensuring timely submission and adherence to grant guidelines. Additionally, helps identify new funding opportunities and contribute to the strategic planning of future research projects.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in wearable technology, AI, and assistive devices,and apply this knowledge to advance the research and development efforts within the lab.
Required qualification
- PhD or equivalent degree in the field of health sciencesor a related field, with a strong preference for expertise in wearable data analysis and machine learning techniques.
- Demonstrated experience conducting research in assistive technologyor related fields aimed at improving accessibility and quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
- Proven track record of preparing manuscripts for publicationin peer-reviewed journals, with an understanding of the publication process.
- Strong ability to prepare and contribute to research reports,including progress reports and grant-related documentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skillsin English, with the ability to deliver compelling presentations and clearly articulate research findings.
- Demonstrated leadership, flexibility, and initiative, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team.
