Post Doctoral Associate Haig Civil & Environmental Engineering - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - 24005699 Postdoc Opportunity in Environmental Engineering Microbiology
We seek a motivated postdoctoral scholar to join the Haig Lab - https://www.haiglab.net/ and work on an NSF CAREER project - https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2336124&HistoricalAwards=false. More specifically, this interdisciplinary project will test the hypothesis that drinking water opportunistic pathogens e.g., NTM which survive chemical oxidant stressor COS exposure during water disinfection will be better at causing disease due to the similarities between the COS found in the human body during infection and drinking water treatment and distribution disinfection processes. The position will require you to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including a local drinking water utility, to tackle research that incorporates microbiology, environmental engineering, and chemistry. The position will be through the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Pittsburgh with PI Haig.
Logistics of the position
Start Date: as soon as possible, no later than January 2025
Length of term: 1 year with potential to extend, depending on funding and performance
Primary Advisor: Dr. Sarah Haig, Assistant Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering
Qualifications:
PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field.
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently to tackle research tasks as well as collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
Experience with 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, metatranscriptomics, drinking water treatment processes, and/ or environmental culturing is preferred.
