Laboratory Research Technician III
The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division of the DOM. The division is led by division chief Alison Morris, MD and Executive Administrator Barbara Suchonic. The division is made of up approximately 70 clinical staff and over 100 research staff who work in a variety of locations including: Bridgeside Point, Biomedical Science Tower (BST), UPMC Hospitals including Presbyterian, Shadyside, East, Jameson and Mercy. The division provides world class services across 10 inpatient services at five hospitals and over 70,000 outpatient office visits. We have a major research mission that focuses on basic, clinical, and translational research on the lung, microbiome, COVID-19, sleep medicine, and allergy and immunology.
The incumbent will serve as the lead technician for all studies involving lung transplant in the PACCSM TRCL, performing a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments, including determining experimental protocols and preparing laboratory specimens and cultures. The incumbent will conduct sample processing, maintains sample repository, and retrieves clinical samples for assigned studies; test and resolve technical issues for protocols; be responsible for Freezerworks database entry and accurate record keeping for studies. The incumbent will interact with clinical coordinators and the lab manager for sample receiving and distribution of samples, assist the lab manager with summary reports, provide investigators with summary reports of samples as requested, keep detailed, accurate, and timely data and logbooks, and maintain lab and chemical inventory.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions
Performs lab test protocols according to the SOP and evaluates new study protocols. Performs a variety of tasks related to the central repository and multiple assigned studies independently. Maintains the overall inventory of clinical samples and Freezerworks database for assigned studies. Prepares summary and individual reports for the lab directors and study PI's.
Physical Effort
Standing for 2 hour periods. Lifting up to 25 pounds.
