Department of Immunology and the Center for Systems Immunology are looking to hire a Laboratory Manager III position. The Center for Systems Immunology (CSI) at the University of Pittsburgh is focused on nucleating and nurturing research and training at the interface of Immunology, Computational Biology, and Biological Engineering. This is accomplished through a dual mission of (i) catalyzing and facilitating inter-disciplinary research initiatives that build a systems-level understanding of immune system development and function and/or pathogen responses and immune-mediated diseases and (ii) harnessing systems-level understanding to rationally enhance vaccine responses and/or to design new therapeutic modalities for immune disorders.

The Laboratory Manager will oversee laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Handle installation and maintenance of scientific equipment in CSI research laboratories. Develop moderately complex projects involving various experimental procedures and computational analyses, independently. The incumbent with participate in advanced research focused on the understanding of signaling pathway inputs into the human genome and the analysis of gene regulatory networks that control the activation and differentiation dynamics of B and T cells. The incumbent will be provided the opportunity to work independently on their own research project as well as collaborate with other lab members. The position will require learning and applying an array of cutting-edge and basic experimental techniques, such as CRISPRi/a, flow cytometry, MPRAs, scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq. The ideal candidate should possess a Master of Science or PhD in Molecular and/or Systems Biology or a related field and have experience with molecular and/or computational biology. Collaborate in the writing of grant applications and manuscripts.

Preferable but not required to have experience working with CRISPRi/a.

Develops moderately complex projects and procedures independently. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions. Collaborates to write grant applications and manuscripts.

Essential Functions * Directs daily laboratory operations of a division, department, function, or program, including conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control. * Develops moderately complex projects and procedures at an independent level. Researches and evaluates new products and equipment; orders and repairs specialized and routine equipment as needed. * Maintains and adapts scientific equipment for experimental needs of the department. Troubleshoots, installs, and adapts electronic devices and other samples for research investigations. * Confers with researchers and faculty concerning research needs and methods. * Prepares budget requests and manages approved budget, as needed. * Prepares and analyzes data; keeps accurate and timely data logbooks; maintains databases. * Collaborates to write grant applications and manuscripts and conducts literature reviews. * Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations for waste disposal; acts as department safety Physical Effort

The position requires the ability to sit/stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.

Although infrequent, the position will occasionally require moving heavy boxes or equipment.
