Graduate Program Administrator

 

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Graduate Program Administrator for the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science. This is an advanced level administrative support position which provides administrative support for the Graduate Programs in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science. In addition to providing academic guidance to all graduate students in the program, the incumbent also provides administrative support to the Graduate Program Directors, the Department Chair, and the Department Administrator. This position is responsible for coordinating all phases of the Graduate Programs. The incumbent should be self-motivated, a quick learner, and able to employ a high level of independent judgment and initiative. The position requires an adaptive, flexible, energetic, and creative individual with a high degree of professionalism, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and cooperatively as a part of a team. Attention to detail and advanced computer skills are required; experience working with Microsoft Office applications, student information systems, and publishing software is preferred. Understanding the University's policies and procedures and generally accepted principles is desirable.

Job Summary

Manages all aspects of graduate and/or undergraduate academic administrative matters. Monitors degree completion progress and keeps accurate records. Performs administrative, advisory, and editorial duties. Manages the department admission process, assists with attracting prospective students, and processes student financial appointments.

Essential Functions

Administrative and management responsibility for aspects related to the Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science graduate programs.

Provide high-level administrative support to the Graduate Program Directors, the Department Chair, and the Department Administrator.

Coordination of student events as needed including those involving recruitment, graduations, student information sessions, and related events.

Physical Effort

Generally sedentary; however, this position does require incumbent to occasionally visit other locations throughout the campus. May occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
