University of Pittsburgh Faculty Professor Teaching Assistant - Full-Time in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
As the University of Pittsburgh's newest school, the School of Computing and Information SCI is a growing interdisciplinary community of faculty, staff, and students who are accustomed to thinking beyond boundaries and innovating new approaches to lead our institution and nation to positive change. Since 2017, SCI has recruited nearly forty new faculty members, and we are continuing our growth with openings in the tenure and appointment streams this year.

Appointment-Stream Position
We invite applications for Teaching Assistant Professors in the fields of computer science and data science, with an anticipated start date in Fall 2024. We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about employing pedagogical approaches and inclusive practices in teaching computer science and data science. In computer science, we seek candidates who can contribute to Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, Mathematical and Statistical Foundations of Computing, Quantum Computing, High-Performance Computing, Theory and Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, and Databases. For data science, we are looking for candidates who can play a vital role in supporting the growth of the School's Applied Data-Driven Methods graduate certificate, actively engage in our interdisciplinary undergraduate data science program, and contribute to the creation of new professional graduate pathways. For both computer science and data science, there are numerous opportunities to innovate curriculum, teach courses, and participate in interdisciplinary academic programs.
The Teaching Assistant Professor position falls within the Appointment Stream at the University of Pittsburgh and has a strong focus on teaching and curriculum within the School of Computing and Information. Appointment Stream faculty are an integral part of our mission and participate fully in faculty life and responsibilities. Appointment-stream faculty have long-term career advancement opportunities that mirror tenure-track faculty lines. They fully participate in the School and University and are encouraged to contribute to new curricula, School governance, and the mentorship of students. Our classes span the full spectrum of computer science and data science such as machine learning, systems, artificial intelligence, algorithms, databases, data analytics, computer vision, graphics, gaming, modeling, natural language processing, and many others. We are looking for candidates enthusiastic to continue the Pitt tradition of excellence in the interdisciplinary, collaborative environment, and leveraging resources within our departments/school and beyond to form a successful teaching agenda and as appropriate, a research agenda centered around students and experiential learning through research.
Minimum required qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD in computer science, information science, data science, or a closely related area
Candidates should hold the Ph.D. degree by September 1, 2024
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated excellence in teaching effectiveness
Served as the primary instructor for computer science or data science courses
Experience in developing courses, creating new curriculum, and innovating pedagogy
For the data science position: experience in online curriculum and teaching
Proficiency with student extra-curricular activities and inclusive education teaching
