Position: Director - Global Manufacturing Excellence, reporting to the VP of Global Advanced Manufacturing and Operational Excellence, Operations
Background: The objective of the Advanced Manufacturing (AM) and Operational Excellence organization, working closely with the respective site leadership and continuous improvement teams, is to formulate, implement, and harmonize our advanced manufacturing and lean six sigma/theory of constraints strategies across the global Excelitas factory network via both global and local optimization. We seek to advance the best practices of IR4.0 in order to be the most productive and glocally optimized photonics manufacturing network. We also partake in leading strategic manufacturing excellence initiatives including scaling best operational practices and capabilities throughout the factory network. As the Director of Global Manufacturing Excellence, in partnership with SBU Leadership, Product Management, R&D, IT, and Operations, you will lead global, cross-functional teams to industrialize manufacturing excellence best practices across the factory network. These include but are not limited to IR4.0 fab automation, demand-supply planning, capacity modeling, NPI industrialization. Responsibilities: Formulate, implement, and harmonize our best manufacturing excellence practices (systems and processes; hardware, software, and analytics) across the global Excelitas factory network to improve our factory's productivity and lean six sigma/TOC continuous improvement programs Be a strong IR4.0 technical, leadership, and program management conduit between corporate operations, IT, and our global sites Provide support for advanced manufacturing and technology transfer strategic initiatives Provide business/operations/engineering data analytics and statistical analysis support to lean six sigma CI and advanced manufacturing projects Improve, streamline, and automate manufacturing processes and systems of measure, which include but not limited to MDE, SCADA, MES, APC, and SPC systems Work on advanced manufacturing projects with local engineering teams at our factories and with external suppliers. Focus on acquiring cost-optimal automation solutions Working with IT and operations, both corporate and site-level, contribute to overall architectural design of various digitization platforms Working on scaling best manufacturing practices across the factory network including demand supply planning, capacity modeling, and yield methodologies Requirements: The Global Advanced Manufacturing and Operational Excellence team at Excelitas embodies a high performance, collaborative culture, marked by highly analytical, attention-to-details, relentless, highly hands-on individuals. Typical, strong candidates for this role possess a majority of the below attributes: BS/MS in science/engineering with a demonstrated academic record of excellence. Candidate must be highly proficient (business and technical) in written English 8-15 years of solid engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, esp. in process engineering (unit process or integration), equipment engineering, and/or hardware/software automation engineering, demand-supply planning, industrial engineering, preferably in the semiconductor/photonics industry Proficient in supply and demand planning methodologies including factory capacity modeling and constrained-based optimization. Familiar with SIOP platforms such as Kinaxis, Blue Yonder, Anaplan, etc. Proficient in the use of Excel, MS VBA, JMP, Minitab, R, RPA/UIPath and/or Python to automate complex analysis; comfortable with script writing Proficient in Database, ERP/MES system and APIs: SQL, SAP and interfaces between ERP/MES and other applications Proficient in cloud computing and different analytical/automation platforms: AWS, MS Azure, MS Power App, Power Automate and Power BI Demonstrated track record to summarize complex data sets for technical and non-technical audiences including high proficiency in data visualization Demonstrated track record to rapidly analyze and solve complex engineering issues by pursuing a focused solution path with a clear understanding of the point of diminishing returns Experience in lean six sigma/theory of constraints continuous improvement projects in a high-volume manufacturing environment; embodies the culture and lives by it Proficient in statistical analysis and data visualization towards problem solving and influencing clear, objective, decision making Highly self-motivated and self-directed with demonstrated ability to work well with people; have strong inter-cultural intuition and able to disagree and commit Demonstrated track record of hands-on experience and ownership around manufacturing equipment and process modules Strong verbal and written communications skills: from extemporaneous, freestyle discussion to structured synthesis of detailed technical reports to executive level distillation, having the ability to connect to business ROI Willingness to travel to sites in Europe, North America, and Asia
