Communications & Marketing Manager

 

The University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering seeks a Communications & Marketing Manager to help increase the visibility of the School and its faculty, staff, students, alumni, and related constituencies. The C&M Manager will report to the Swanson School's Director of Marketing and Communications, and will assist with publicity/news releases, feature articles, copywriting and editing, advertising, and marketing content, print and/or digital signage, web content, and proofreading. The C&M Manger will also be responsible for development of a content marketing plan for the school and other units as needed, and track and evaluate marketing strategies.

The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelors and/or Master's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field from a 4-year college/university and 5-7 years of previous experience, preferably in news media or a science/university environment. The ability to effectively interpret and communicate technical engineering research to a variety of audiences is critical. Excellent news and feature -writing/editing skills and ability to apply these within Associated Press Style and university guidelines with minimal editing is essential. Strong time management skills required to balance workloads, especially on short deadlines. Required to work in a team environment and to interact professionally and personally with the university community including senior leadership.

Job Summary

Executes University communications and marketing strategies for a program or unit. Oversees print and electronic communications, subsequent media promotion, and development of a content marketing plan. Tracks and evaluates marketing strategies. Guides staff. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains University brand and style.

Essential Functions

To work with SSoE faculty, administrators, and students to increase awareness and generate positive publicity and brand awareness for the Swanson School of Engineering.
