JMT's Pittsburgh Construction Management Team is seeking a Coatings Inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), and municipal highway and bridge projects. The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Gather and maintain record documents
Make field notes and computations
Document daily ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, wind, etc.) during abrasive blasting and coating application
Check surface preparation using equipment and/or referenced standards
Verify profile depth and levels of salt contamination on the surface
Inspect the application of coatings (procedures, mixing, thickness) using test instruments and compare with the manufacturer’s data sheets and project specifications
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required SkillsRequired Experience
3 years of Structural Steel Coatings Inspection Experience
6 months of coatings inspection experience on bridges
Active driver’s license
AMPP/NACE CIP Level 1 certificate
SSPC C3 certificate
Computer/IPAD proficiency is preferred
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Work may be performed at night. Ability to climb required.
