The Institute for Emerging Technology at Pittsburg State University is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer Manager. The Manufacturing Engineer Manager participates in the research projects in the division, including but not limited to the fabrication, processing, and testing of new and/or commercial polymers and plastics. The Manager writes reports/manuscripts based on the results and contributes towards proposal writing for external funding. The Manufacturing Engineer Manager should be able to teach BS and MS-level relevant courses as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

55%-Research and Development

  • Perform research:designandexecute experiments suchaspreparingsamples, processing, synthesizing,and characterizationofpolymers and plastics forvarious applications.
  • Dataacquisition,analysis,andwritingreports.
  • Maintaincertain laboratory equipment,developstandardoperatingprocedures,keeprecords
  • Teach oneortwoclasses per semester asperneed. Supervise, mentor, writeandreview technical resuIts,and evaluate activities ofstudents and junior researchers.
  • Preparewritteninternalandexternalreportsandpresentationsoftechnicalresultstointernalandexternal constituents.
  • Workwithsupervisortowritemanuscriptsandreportsforpresentationsandpublications.
  • Assist AVPandExecutive Directors to provide supervision of oneor moretechnicians, undergraduate and graduate students, and other researchers working in the division.

35%-BusinessandTechnicalManagement

  • Plan,obtain,andmanagenewprojectsfromexternalfundingsources(includingfederal,state,andregionalfunding entities and industrial partners).
  • Develop ofadvanced polymers/plasticsusingeco-friendlyroutes,newproducts,etc.bywritingproposals,reports, publications, and patents.
  • Coordinateandcollaboratewithexternalconstituentsinthepracticeoftechnologydevelopmentforlicensing and commercializationinconsultation withthe supervisor.
  • Reporttechnicalresultstothesupervisorandtocolleaguesthroughwrittenandoralreports.Literaturesearch andplanningnewfundable researchbasedondivision/universityobjectives.
  • Communicateresearchtointernalandexternalconstituentsthroughoralandwrittenpublications, presentations,patents, and other communications.
  • Communicatewiththescientificcommunitiesandcurrentandpotentialindustrialpartners asneeded.
