Location: Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids or Clearwater, FL and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Job Description

Job Description: As a Lead Engineer – Mechanical Component, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing avionics products that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will utilize your technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and lean mindset to drive key business objectives and exceed customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design, interconnect evaluations, component selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis for avionics products.

  • Create detailed mechanical models, drawings, and bills of material.

  • Conduct thermal, stress, and vibration analyses to ensure product compliance with environmental and operational requirements, and provide technical reports.

  • Lead design and work-product reviews, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

  • Collaborate with customers to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.

  • Mentor junior engineers and lead multi-disciplinary design teams.

  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives and design architectural trade studies.

  • Provide technical support to the production factory for root cause investigations.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance department efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in packaging design for electronics assemblies.

  • Working knowledge of Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.

  • Proficiency in model and drawing creation using Siemens NX.

  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management systems (PTC Windchill).

  • Experience in vibration and thermal analysis using FEA tools.

  • Knowledge of aerospace standards, materials, and processes.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement mindset.
