Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of highly complex boule and wafer fabrication tasks in support of the production process, volume manufacturing processes and RD&E for Advanced Materials products. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of process equipment including: Advanced Wafering Technology, External (O.D.) Grinders, Surface Grinder, and X-Ray equipment. Must be able to read and articulate measurement equipment such as rulers, drop gauges, micrometers, and calipers. Must be able to operate within a heavily detail-orientated environment whilst simultaneously processing multiple instances of material (multitasking). The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Production/Engineering Team and will closely follow the engineering guidelines and written technological procedures. The incumbent must be able to communicate problems using concise verbal and written methods. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized workstation according to 5S practices. Supports the scale-up of fabrication capabilities to keep pace with ever changing production levels and processes. Contributes to the continuous improvement of fabrication capabilities to an industry leadership position and executes special assignments as needed. Participates in Advanced Materials Environmental, Health and Safety activities. Responsible for the II-VI ESGP appraisal system as it relates to your own career and personal development.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
High efficiency and throughput are maintained in the operation of Advanced Wafering Technology, External (O.D.) Grinders, Surface Grinder, X-Ray equipment, Cleaning Equipment, and other related equipment.
Quality levels attained after each fabrication step are closely monitored and maintained by utilizing SPC tracking/analysis methods where appropriate.
All machine operations follow established written procedures.
Data is recorded and entered in the database in a timely manner.
Performs weekly inventory counts of production material as-requested.
Maintains schedules and documentation for production orders and samples.
Inspects and documents product quality. Communicates problems, results, and important issues to the team in a timely manner.
Identifies ways to improve fab process efficiency, productivity, and quality.
Inventories of critical fabrication supplies and spare parts are monitored and maintained at levels appropriate to the support of efficient and cost-effective RD&E and production activities.
Fabrication equipment is kept in "high-performance" condition through the execution of an appropriate preventative maintenance program. Troubleshooting of fabrication equipment is conducted in a highly efficient and effective manner.
Machinery breakdowns are met with timely actions to minimize process downtime, negative throughput impact and/or damage to program schedules.
Maintains clean and organized work areas.
Supports initiatives to continuously improve and reduce variations in specific operations or processes, including Six Sigma training, process control charting, process capability studies, and lean manufacturing.
New equipment installations are supported in conjunction with the responsible engineers and supervisors.
Supports and responds to requests for assistance with customer related quality and delivery issues.
Shop procedures are formalized and documented in a format that meets ISO requirements and Division standards.
Provides training to new employees as needed

Education & Experience
High School Diploma: vocational training in machining or mechanical engineering is a plus
2-4 years of hands-on laboratory and/or production experience in process intensive environments with vocational or technical certificate.
Experience with precision measurement methods and systems.
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and procedures closely while offering suggestions for continuous improvement.
Experience with networked PC based computer system (Microsoft Office applications, Email, MRP/MES systems).)

Skills & Other Requirements
Broad, practical knowledge of semiconductor wafer fabrication and hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of fabrication process tools (Grinders, X-rays, Cleaning Equipment) in an industrial environment is a big plus.
Well-honed observational skills that enable the rapid identification of operating problems/abnormalities.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
Ability to train new or inexperienced operators or technicians to operate fabrication equipment and processes.
Must be computer-literate to operate computer-controlled equipment and make data entry
Knowledge of and ability to work effectively with process development tools and systems such as SPC, DOE and ISO 9000 methodologies.
Capability to quickly respond to unusual events, emergencies and/or accidents.
Ability to work in a cross-cultural, team-based environment.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Handle special assignments promptly and professionally.
Set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, and competency.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for long periods of time, ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Good hand dexterity.
