JOB SUMMARY:
Acts as head of group for the assigned classroom. Oversees the planning and implementing of Early Childhood classroom activities utilizing a team approach. Ensures a safe, healthy classroom environment. Acts as a resource and provides support to other classroom staff.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Takes a leadership role in weekly planning and implementation of appropriate Early Childhood Curriculum; works collaboratively with assigned staff.
Works as a team member in the supervision of children and daily operations of the classroom.
Works collaboratively with parents regarding the diapering/toilet learning process; completes daily notes of diapering, nap time and meal information.
Records observations, completes assessments and conducts parent-teacher conferences twice a year.
Communicates information and activities with parents daily.
Ensures implementation of recommendations from the Center Manager.
Ensures the classroom is neat and organized.
Implements, oversees and participates in small groups, circle time and outdoor play; serves meals and eats with children.
Prepares materials used in the classroom (paint, art supplies) and rotates classroom materials regularly.
Conducts daily health check by observing and recording the health of the children; reports any concerns to the Center Manager and LPN.
Assists with the compliance of Day Care Regulations and Agency/Department Policies and Procedures.
Completes routine paperwork such as attendance records, meal counts and incident reports.
Works as a team member to keep building equipment, both indoors and out clean and in good condition; reports problems to the Center Manager.
Uses good judgement in handling routine situations; seeks assistance from Center Manager in all other situations.
Participates in required professional development trainings and meetings.
Contributes article(s) to the monthly newsletter.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the desire and ability to work with all children and their families.
Must be able to work well in a team-teaching atmosphere and have good leadership.
Must exhibit good judgment and be able to maintain confidentiality.
Must be able to work with others in a warm, non-judgmental manner, have professional behavior and be a positive role model to others.
Must have good communication skills and be able to follow oral and written directions.
Must have acceptable physical and mental health to carry out the responsibilities of the position including lifting materials and children up to 30 pounds, bending, stooping and stocking shelves.
Must complete and maintain required in specific topic areas as assigned; completes a minimum of 30 hours over a two-year period.
Must possess a valid NYS Driver's License with points within Agency policy and have access to a reliable vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and up to 12 months directly related experience; or
CDA Credential; or 9 College Credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field with two years experience caring for children; and for the toddler classroom, one additional year of specific training and/or experience in infant or toddler care.
Full-Time - 37.5 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
Grade 6
Monday to Friday: 7:00am - 3:00pm
