POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides oversight of the Point of Care Testing (POCT) Program at Banner Hospital(s) or Banner Medical Group/Banner University Medical Group Clinics, Health Centers, and Institutes. Provides advanced practical and theoretical skills as required to oversee and guide all aspects of POCT. Serves as a consultant/trainer to clinical areas performing POCT. Demonstrates and understands lab processes and monitors through quality measures. Ensures programs are consistent with regulatory and accreditation agency requirements.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Demonstrates an understanding of POCT processes performed throughout the facilities while working in collaboration with providers and clinical staff. Responsible for workflow oversight of POCT that aligns with POCT policies and procedures while integrating comprehensive technical knowledge and clinical relevance into the daily activities. Responsible for complex problem resolution of technical, computer, interdepartmental and quality issues.

  2. Prepares and provides information/updates/reports and pertinent quality assurance information to facility, laboratory and POCT leadership regarding POCT testing status. Reviews all POCT data as required and takes necessary action as outlined in the POCT Policies and Technical Procedures. Assists with the implementation of new QC/QA policies and continuous quality improvement programs in accordance with system POCT initiatives.

  3. Develops and maintains good working relationships with clinical staff through collaboration and mentoring. Prepares and monitors POCT employee orientation, training, education, and competency needed to meet regulatory requirements. Works closely with clinical staff emphasizing teamwork while focusing on customer service and superior patient care.

  4. Involved in system initiatives and multidisciplinary teams to support standardization. In conjunction with the site Medical Director, System Medical Director and POCT Leadership, identifies the type and location of POCT within the facility. Facilitates implementation of new POCT equipment and tests as approved and in accordance with POCT policies. Acquires the skills necessary to utilize new tools and technology in the rapidly changing POCT environment while supporting standardization.

  5. Serves as a communication liaison for on-site and system issues. Provides access to other system resources when relevant. Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written skills, preceptor and coaching skills and promotes a constructive environment that encourages learning and development.

  6. May be expected to provide oversight and support for POCT operations at multiple facilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint are required.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, high level of self-motivation, ability to work well with others.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated behaviors consistent with those identified as Company core behaviors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science.

  • Three (3) years’ experience in non-waived testing.

  • MT (HEW) certified technologist will be considered equivalent to BS and three years’ experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MT/MLS (ASCP or equivalent) certification.

  • Workplace experience in a hospital or commercial laboratory.

  • Two (2) years’ experience Point of Care Testing.

  • Additional related education and/or experience.
