Job Title: Painter/ Sandblaster

1st shift 5am-330pm, Monday to Friday, with some Saturdays required

Job Description

Sandblaster:

  • The sandblaster is responsible for creating a work plan for each day, ensuring it is set up and laid out by the end of the previous work day. This includes prioritizing tasks, organizing resources, and determining the time needed for each job.

  • The sandblaster must maintain a clean and organized work environment. This includes keeping the blast bay clean, ensuring curtains are closed, and keeping the area in front of the blast booth cleaned and cleared of obstructions

  • The sandblaster is required to clean the blast booth daily in case the Air Quality Department conducts inspections. This includes removing debris, ensuring proper ventilation, and maintaining a safe working environment.

  • The sandblaster is responsible for maintaining all sandblasting equipment in good working condition. This includes performing regular inspections, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.

  • The sandblaster must be knowledgeable about the specific requirements for each job, including which parts need to be sandblasted and which should not be. This requires attention to detail and a thorough understanding of the project specifications.

  • The sandblaster is responsible for maintaining an accurate piece count of all items being sandblasted, as well as tracking the exact time spent on each job. This information will be used for project management, billing, and performance evaluation purposes.

  • The sandblaster is expected to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other relevant personnel to ensure smooth project execution and to address any concerns or issues that may arise.

Painter:

  1. Use a wet film thickness (WFT) gauge for coating applications, as it is mandatory for all painters at PPS Coatings.

  2. Surface Preparation:

• Inspect and evaluate surfaces to identify imperfections, defects, or damages.

• Remove old paint, dirt, or debris using appropriate methods such as sanding, scraping, or pressure washing.

• Repair cracks, holes, or other surface imperfections using filling materials, caulking, or putty.

• Apply masking materials to protect adjacent areas from paint overspray or drips

  1. Paint Application:

• Mix and match paint colors according to project specifications and client preferences.

• Apply primer, paint, and other coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment, ensuring even and smooth coverage.

• Monitor drying times and apply additional coats as needed, ensuring proper adhesion and finish.

  1. Cleanup and Maintenance:

• Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment to ensure longevity and proper functioning.

• Dispose of waste materials and solvents in accordance with local regulations and company guidelines.

• Leave the worksite clean and debris-free upon completion of each project.

  1. Continuous Improvement:

• Stay updated on industry trends, new painting techniques, and best practices.

• Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in painting and sandblasting.

  • Proficiency in surface preparation and the use of spray guns.

  • Knowledge of SSPC-Surface Preparation and NACE Abrasive standards.

  • Experience with industrial tanks, reclamation facilities, and carbon steel water tank reservoirs.

  • Ability to identify and achieve SP-1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15 standards.

  • Ability to blast 150 sq/ft to an SP-10 in 1 hour.

  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to coat 1000 sqft with minimal rework.

  • Understanding of airless spray tips and coating application techniques.

  • Ability to mix coatings correctly and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Confined space certification.

  • Experience with vertical and horizontal substrates.

  • Proficiency in using hand tools such as crescent wrenches, hammers, pliers, wire cutters, and screwdrivers.

Work Environment

The job involves multiple sites in the valley, including municipality work, waste water treatment plants, reclamation facilities, carbon steel water tank reservoirs, and confined spaces. Heights and confined spaces are common, with access points ranging from 24” to 26” and dry wells of 12' to 14' diameter. Heavy industrial facilities and the use of various tools and PPE are integral to the role.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, Arizo

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.50/hr.
