U-Haul Major Case Unit Litigation Supervisor - Sr. Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster in Phoenix, Arizona

Location:

2721 N Central Ave, Phoenix, Arizona 85036 United States of America

Responsible for a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, overseeing adjusters who manage claim files involved in declaratory judgment actions, training and assisting adjusters where needed, working with defense counsel to see declaratory judgment actions to completion.

Essential Duties: (Note: Essential duties are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary).

  • Working with in-house and local counsel to move declaratory judgment actions to conclusion

  • Reviewing the status of declaratory judgment actions along their lifetime to evaluate options

  • Overseeing adjusters’ declaratory judgment cases to provide guidance or strategy as needed

  • Providing support for defense counsel handling declaratory judgment actions

  • Monitoring defense counsel’s compliance with the company’s litigation guidelines

  • Reviewing/Analyzing all new correspondence received to file

  • Sending monthly status letters to involved parties

  • Managing phone calls and e-mails in a fast-paced environment

  • Acknowledging incoming suits/notifying Manager & U-Haul Legal

  • Acknowledging letters of representation and demands timely

  • Updating files from status reports received from Defense Counsel

  • Having the ability to prepare formal denial letters regarding coverage

  • Settling 1st & 3rd party claims using evident fraud as needed

  • Working closely with U-Haul Legal & MCU Defense Counsel

  • Working closely with State DOI, NICB, & FBI on their investigations

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in related field (preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum of three+ (3) years’ claims adjusting experience; litigation experience; or equivalent combination of advanced education and experience.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to manage relationships in a fast-paced environment, while demonstrating problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Good analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment and evaluate claims to make sound decisions with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • An understanding of the litigation process and case evaluations in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions, ability to respond to requests effectively and efficiently and exhibit good common sense.

  • An ability to handle assigned claims following company guidelines and industry best practices with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • Time management skills, organizational skills and ability to prioritize issues and tasks.

  • Ability to effectively operate computer equipment and applications.

  • Independence, flexibility, and creativity.
