Position Description
HEAD START CLASSROOM AIDE
The Classroom Aide assist the Head Start staff with daily classroom routines in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards GPUL Head Start Policies and Procedures, and AZ Day Care Licensing. Duties may include Classroom.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with set-up, clean- up, and presentation of classroom and outdoor activities.
- Organize materials needed for classroom activities.
- Store and maintain educational material and equipment.
- Assist in serving and cleaning up after snacks, tooth brushing, and lunches.
- Assist with child positive guidance.
- Complete daily attendance calls to families and record on log.
- Enter daily attendance on to CMS.
- Monitor children during free time, field trips, and transition periods.
- Model appropriate behavior for children.
- Use developmentally appropriate communication skills.
- Maintain a healthy and safe classroom environment.
- Assist with toileting, brushing and hand washing. Model appropriate eating habits, tooth brushing and hand washing for the children.
- Assist with classroom sanitation.
- Actively supervise children during teacher breaks.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Head Start Policies and Procedures.
- Report suspected child abuse cases to the Department of Human Services and the Sit Administrator immediately and submit appropriate paperwork.
- Actively supervise children at all times, i.e. children must be within hearing and sight, and maintain child/ staff ration in accordance with state and federal requirement.
- Accompany classroom on field trips when scheduled.
- Attend meeting and in-service training when scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
EDUCATION:
- High School completion or a GED.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year of experience in a child development program (0 to 5 Preferred) working directly with children families and staff.
- Must have ability to use technology to complete reports.
REQUIRMENTS:
- Combination of experience and education normally represented by a High School Diploma or equivalent with six months volunteer or work experience in a day care or preschool environment preferred, particularly in a Head Start Program.
- Previous experience in human services setting or Community Action program preferred.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR or attained through training during the first six months of employment.
- Medical statement signed by physician or certified nurse practitioner required.
- Must be able to effectively, productively work with people of very diverse economic, cultural and administrative backgrounds.
- Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must demonstrate an ability to work cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be Flexible.
- Must have reliable means of transportation for local travel.
- Must be able to actively interact with preschool children by having good dexterity with ability to lift up to 40 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel and the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and squat.
- Final applicant will be required to be fingerprinted in order to complete background check.
