Position Summary

Performs inspections of fire sprinkler, fire alarm & detection, fire extinguishers, and backflow prevention devices in line with national and local code requirements.

Experience Level

Entry level, Intermediate, Skilled

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Inspections of wet pipe fire sprinkler systems.

  • Inspections of "special" fire sprinkler systems such as pre-action, dry pipe, and foam. This will include "trip" testing and re-setting of special system valves and associated devices.

  • Inspections and testing of fire pumps including annual full-flow functional testing.

  • Inspections and testing of fire alarm and detection systems.

  • Inspections and testing of fire extinguishers.

  • Completion of the NFPA report forms associated with the various systems being inspected using a handheld PC device.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required

This position offers opportunities for entry-level candidates to learn on the job.

For experienced Technicians, preference will be given to those with:

  • NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems required

  • Experience with fire detection systems including VESDA, FM200 and other gas extinguishing systems

  • Experience testing fire alarm, access control, and security systems.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of low voltage wiring, troubleshooting, and National Fire Alarm Code.

  • Experience reading, interpreting, and applying system design plans and construction documents.

  • Able to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces.

  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends when needed.

  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.

  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with others.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License and clean driving record.

  • All candidates offered a position must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
