We are proud and excited to offer summer internships for 2025 across several of our different office locations and are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.

Our B.L.U.E. (Build, Learn, Understand, Enrich) Summer Internship Program is purposefully designed to inspire your imagination and help you guide your career with purpose. You’ll be an integral part of McKinstry with hands-on experience, mentorship and a healthy dose of fun. Our program delivers depth and real experience so that you can truly evaluate potential career paths within the work we do.
What we look for in our Electrical Engineer Interns:
Must be pursuing or have a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Junior student standing or higher required.
Availability in Summer 2025 (May/June start until August/September depending on the school); part-time availability after Summer preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess excellent follow-up skills.
Must be self–motivated, able to multi‐task, and work independently.
Some familiarity with construction plans, specs, contracts, proposals, estimates, and other commonly encountered items would be beneficial, however, it is expected that an intern would not generally have prior exposure to these concepts.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook required; working knowledge of SharePoint would be beneficial.
Intermediate knowledge of Bluebeam Revu
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) / Building Information Modelling (BIM) experience preferred. This internship will give ample opportunity to gain experience in Autodesk Revit.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
What are our Electrical Engineer Interns are responsible for:
A McKinstry Electrical Engineer Intern will be exposed to multiple facets of the electrical design process. Items you may expect exposure to include the following:
Performing site visits with Engineers or reviewing site record drawings and photos to gather information during project development.
Undertaking site visits with Engineers to review progress during construction.
Performing manual calculations to support power system design.
Researching and supporting development of Solar PV / renewable energy projects.
Generating drawings including plans and schematics.
Providing construction support/administration activities such as answering Requests For Information (RFI’s) & reviewing vendor equipment submittals.
Researching codes and standards to determine requirements on lighting, electrical, and renewable energy systems.
Coordinating Electrical design with other disciplines (Mechanical, Structural, Architectural).
Utilizing specialized software to perform design calculations.
Other duties as assigned.

The hourly rate for this role is $24/hr.
