Perform transportation duties and activities within the shipyard as defined by HSE policy, shipyard schedules and instructions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ensures all PSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are performed and met
  • Safely and proficiently operate transportation equipment for movements of materials, sections and grand blocks
  • Operate yard equipment (but not all inclusive)
  • Forklifts (light and heavy)
  • Kirow (lower weight units)
  • Basic rigging
  • High reach
  • Scissor lift
  • Must report deficiencies in equipment
  • Safely and efficiently perform  assignments as instructed by management/supervisor on all yard operations
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.  Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.* *

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.  A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required.  Employment in this position is contingent upon passing the medical examination. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position.  Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months' experience with heavy transportation equipment
  • Experience in shipyards, heavy construction, heavy fabrication, waterfront port equipment
  • Must maintain valid PSI / OSHA certifications
  • Knowledge of Safety / HSE
  • Shipyard PPE policy
  • Shipyard HSE policies
  • Yard map and signage
  • Detailed and comprehension knowledge of the following:
  • Equipment capacities and capabilities
  • Operating procedures including:
  • Pre operational checks -- must report deficiencies in equipment
  • OEM manuals
  • Basic maintenance of equipment
  • Limitations of all equipment (such as capacities)
  • Yard nomenclature
