About the role

The Stoker Reliability Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing the inspection and maintenance methods, procedures and practices to minimize stoker system failures and maximize stoker systems reliability. Reporting to the Manager of Stoker Grate Reliability, the Stoker Reliability Specialist will ensure consistent oversight of the stoker systems component life, through detailed inspection and reporting management.

Effective planning and execution of stoker inspections, proper specification of materials, and oversight of repair and replacement procedures is critical to reducing failures and improving reliability.

The stoker system which includes the feedchutes, feeders, grates and ash extractors can greatly impact the proper operation of the boiler and environmental compliance if not effectively maintained. Effective coordination of the inspections with the facility, condition assessment, and communication of best practices is critical to reliability of these components.

  • Develop and execute yearly condition assessment and inspections of all stoker mechanical equipment
  • Work with OEM and non-OEM drawings, diagrams and layouts to insure correctness of installation
  • Check newly installed or repaired stoker equipment for correctness of installation and repairs
  • Implement and develop stoker equipment repair methods
  • Witness and accept final mechanical tests
  • Provide recommendations to the facilities for immediate (during ongoing outage), short (one year), intermediate (two to three years) and long term (five years of more) maintenance and replacement of stoker equipment
  • Maintain regional stoker inspection database in AWARE software package
  • Create forced outage reports in AWARE
  • Maintain regional Stoker Risk Assessment database
  • Oversee mechanical contractors and quality of workmanship
  • Assume Zone Lead role during stoker outage as required
  • Provide contractor evaluation and maintain corporate stoker contractor database
  • Actively maintain Long Term Maintenance Plan
  • Advise and develop cast component recycling program at the facility level
  • Support facilities and corporate initiatives as assigned

Office location dependent on specialist home location. Working from home is acceptable.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES BY PERCENT: Tasks 1. Support facilities during scheduled and unscheduled overhauls/ repairs of stoker equipment (75%) 2. Performs contractor oversite and QA/QC (10%) 3. Provides maintenance recommendations for LTMP (5%) 4. Document field work and makes recommendations in formal reports in AWARE database (10%) REQUIREMENTS (Education, Skills, Certificate, Licenses, Experience): Education : * High School Diploma * Applicable certifications: welding, rigging, QA procedures and measurement tools, industrial maintenance tool training * Additional technical training and education a plus Experience : * At least 1 year (3 years strongly preferred) direct experience in stoker or material handli g equipment, including at least one, but not limited to following stoker systems: o Martin Reciprocating Stoker Grates o DBA Rolling Grates o Detroit Stoker Traveling Grates o Steinmuller Horizontal Grates o VonRoll Horizontal Grates o Hydraulic Systems * Knowledge and ability to use tools, specialized equipment and procedures * Practical field experience involving materials handling equipment installation, maintenance, overhaul and operations Required regular facility visits with confined space, respirator required boiler entry. No limitations to working in this industrial environment. * Ability to write and review required reporting * Ability to communicate complex information effectively to any audience in both written and verbal formats * High proficiency in MS Office, especially with Excel spreadsheets, Outlook, and AWARE databases * Ability to communicate effectively and easily with management/ employees at different levels of the organization in office or remotely. * Motivated, self-starter PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Operating facility environment with OSHA required PPE, safety training for areas including confined spaces
  • Job requires physical demands consistent with work in industrial environment.
  • 12-14-hour shifts, can be consecutive days up to 14 days on both day and night shift during outages
  • Occasional lifting required but typically no more than 50 pounds
  • Entering and exiting boilers throughout the shift through various size entry/exit points requiring agility and ability to bend and twist to make entry of or exiting boilers
  • Wearing of full-face respirator for extended period on a daily basis during outages
  • Walking, bending, twisting and climbing of scaffolding and stairs throughout shift.
  • Use of a handheld grinder is also required at times.
  • Majority of work will be accomplished by traveling to facilities performing assigned tasks and supporting scheduled and unscheduled outages
  • Approximately 75% of work time will be at company facilities during outage times or other scheduled or unscheduled maintenance intervals. * * WORK ENVIRONMENT:
