The Senior Associate, Business Development is a key position which will work across all hospitals, divisions, and affiliates associated within Penn Medicine, assisting in the development and execution of the organization's strategic plans. This position will be responsible for supporting strategic initiatives by assisting in the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of growth organically or through mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. The Senior Associate will work closely with leaders and teammates across all functions of the business, including legal, finance, and operations. The Senior Associate will collaborate with a group of highly motivated teammates and be expected to successfully manage multiple work streams and effectively communicate analyses within the team and with senior executives.

Accountabilities

  • Support in planning and executing strategic growth initiatives spanning all facets of the process, including comprehensive business assessments, due diligence, negotiations, and closing

  • Complete valuation analysis and perform rigorous analysis of operational and financial impact of potential transactions

  • Participate in and prepare for meetings and due diligence sessions with internal and external stakeholders

  • Support financial and operational due diligence analysis of business opportunities identifying and resolving key deal issues

  • Support AVPs, VPs, and SVPs as well as other leaders in developing and presenting executive-level memoranda, presentations, and detailed financial analysis to share with senior leadership

  • Research, review, and screen potential acquisition and partnership opportunities

  • Support ad hoc projects and other administrative tasks to enhance the group’s infrastructure and connectivity with internal stakeholders

  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Minimum Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree is Required

  • 4+ years of Progressive and relevant experience, in healthcare or business development functions.

  • 0-1 year Project management experience with demonstrated increase in responsibility and project complexity.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong project analysis, project management (multiple projects simultaneously), problem solving, brainstorming and planning silks required. Strong quantitative and analytical abilities are essential.

  • Strong organization skills and ability to break complex project plans into defined pieces. Able to deliver clear and concise product presentations and to write clearly and effectively.

  • Experience in engaging care providers with varying roles, including clinical and non-clinical staff.

  • Ability to analyze, diagnose, suggest and implement process change.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in database management, including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong financial modeling skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements.

  • Flexibility to work with short deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of legal agreements, third party reimbursement and revenue models, design/construction needs and processes, and compensation models.

  • Must possess a broad range of entrepreneurial talents and be success-driven/results-oriented in a complex and fast paced work environment

  • Effective influencing, negotiation, relationship-building and communication (written and verbal) skills are essential with demonstrable sensitivity to communication in a complex environment, including ability to effectively and confidently interact with all levels of management and with physicians.

  • Strong business analytic skills, including working knowledge of healthcare industry, operations and information systems, and hospital and physician financial reimbursement.
