Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician III supports investigational pharmacists, research investigators and study coordinators for Investigational Drug Services (IDS) at Penn Medicine. Under the supervision of the IDS pharmacist, the role is responsible for providing patient care services to patients enrolled in clinical trials, oversee investigational drug inventory and storage, including record keeping and drug accountability, ordering and receiving products, tracking expiration dates, processing drug returns and destruction after study closure. You will provide medication dispensing and preparation for conventional and investigational products. The role will perform both sterile and non-sterile investigational drug compounding, assist with distribution of investigational products to Penn patients and other clinical sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Processes prescriptions/medication orders and prepares medications

  • Ensures proper distribution/delivery of investigational pharmaceutical and supply shipment, provide support for drug procurement staff including unpacking stock, documenting receipt, and proper storage

  • Ensures the doses are prepared and delivered within established department time frame standards.

  • Completes and documents daily and monthly activity checklists including expired drug checking, cleaning assignments of sterile and nonsterile compounding spaces and ordering supplies

  • Checks all available means of communication including email and EPIC secure chat messages

  • Review patients orders daily to verify all documentation is collected and recorded accurately according to SOP and study specific requirements

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to meet USP 795, USP797 and USP800 guidances

  • Participates in ongoing clinical trials training and updates

Credentials:

  • CPHT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required).

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy technician in a hospital, infusion center or retail pharmacy (Required).

  • Experience in high-risk sterile compounding, hazardous sterile compounding, nonsterile compounding (Preferred).
