Confidential Employer High School General Science Teacher in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania
Job Overview: General Science teachers at Community Academy of Philadelphia inspire students with learning opportunities about Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science. High school General Science teachers at CAP prepare lesson plans and assign homework, as well as create and grade exams that test students on what they have learned. They are also responsible for working with parents, school administrators, and other teachers to further the education of all students.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Ensure your pupils achieve learning outcomes that are above average in the subject of General Science by instructing students in a clear, concise and fun way, and regularly preparing lesson plans that are engaging and incorporate the curriculum
- Incorporate the school's objectives into your curriculum by remaining up to date with mission and initiatives
- Attend staff meetings and development days to improve your skills and receive help and feedback from colleagues
- Regularly communicate with parents and legal guardians regarding child's performance, track and record student progress and keep records up to date for progress reports and report card conferences
- Review curriculum needs and execute plans for improvement, and provide tutoring and additional support
- Act as a role model by making your students feel motivated while maintaining an approachable personality
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
- Attend school events to better understand student interest and personalities outside of the regular classroom, build strong relationships with your students and aid in the strengthening of their self-confidence while inspiring them to achieve high goals
Qualifications:
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Education or relevant subject.
- Current PA teaching certification.
- Current PA background clearances are required.
- Candidate must be part of a close professional community and able to contribute in positive ways to the culture of the school
- Flexible and willing to adapt to change at short notice.
- Expertise in the major fields of General Science
- Experience teaching in a classroom environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with all staff and colleagues
- Flexibility and high adaptation skills to work successfully in an unpredictable school setting
- Computer and technologically literate, in particular using Mac computers and SmartBoards.
- Organization and communication skills
- Physical Requirements: must be able to maneuver in classroom environments and classroom spaces, filing, faxing, scanning, copying, mailing, making phone calls, sitting for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor, using keyboards, and typing.
