Confidential Employer High School Biology Teacher in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania
Overview: Successful candidates will teach courses in the biological sciences arena. Particular emphasis will be placed on preparing students for the Keystone Biology exam.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Instruct students on the study of living things.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents at different technology skill levels to support instruction and advance educational goals.
- Provide constructive criticism and regular feedback.
- Perform inquiry-based experiments in class to enhance the lecture component.
- Respond to student and mentor inquiries.
- Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in.
- Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions.
- Keep current records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed.
- Assist in writing grant proposals to gain funding to help further our program.
- Create projects designed to enhance lectures.
- Read and stay abreast of current topics in biology and education.
- Utilize various curriculum resources.
- Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
- Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
- Work with administrators and colleagues to ensure initiatives are being met.
- Tutor students on an individual basis.
- Observe and evaluate student's performance
Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Education or relevant subject.
- Current PA teaching certification.
- Current PA background clearances are required.
- Candidate must be part of a close professional community and able to contribute in positive ways to the culture of the school
- Flexible and willing to adapt to change at short notice.
- Computer and technologically literate, in particular using Mac computers and SmartBoards.
- Organization and communication skills
Physical Requirements: must be able to maneuver in classroom environments and classroom spaces, filing, faxing, scanning, copying, mailing, making phone calls, sitting for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor, using keyboards, and typing.
