Job Title:             Experimental Flight Test Engineer

Department:        Engineering

Reports to:          Flight Test Engineering Supervisor

Direct Reports:   None

Location(s):        Philadelphia, PA

 

1. Summary of Position:  (Brief description of overall responsibilities and function)

Role is for a Flight Test Engineer for Leonardo Helicopters, based in Philadelphia, working on Type Certificate (TC), Post-TC and Supplemental TC Test programs (AW609, AW119, AW139, etc). Responsibilities include: 

  • Development of Test Plans, Test Condition database and Test methodology
  • Mission planning for Flight Tests to meet all test objectives, including writing of test cards, Risk worksheets, Pre-Flight & Post-Flight briefings
  • Directing experimental flight tests either remotely through real-time telemetry or on-board data monitoring
  • Leading or supporting Test Readiness reviews prior to the start of a test campaign.
  • Coordination with Operations and Aircraft Management to ensure proper configuration and readiness of aircraft for test
  • Coordination with all other relevant Engineering functions in support of planning and executing a flight test
  • Ensuring displays for real-time monitoring are up-to-date for aircraft limitations
  • Capture and release test information in Daily Test Summaries, Test Reports for FAA/ Customer submission
  • Applicant must have ability to travel 10% of the time for Training opportunities
  • Applicant must have the ability to obtain a Class II or III medical certificate
  • Applicant must be willing to attend the Water Survival (Helo dunker) and Altitude Chamber training
  • Applicant must be able to support off-hours testing, 2nd shift testing, weekends as needed

  1. *Qualifications for Position: *

A. Education: BS in Aerospace Engineering and / or Mechanical Engineering  

B. Experience

  • 0 -- 2 years of experience in an experimental flight test environment is preferred. 
  • Fixed wing and /or rotorcraft experience is acceptable. 
  • Execution of tests on-board or through Telemetry is a strong asset.

C. Competencies & Attributes

1.Knowledge and experience in the design, development and certification of aircraft

2.Knowledge of analysis techniques (including the use of analytical models)

3.Knowledge of aircraft / rotorcraft flight test methodologies and techniques

4. Ability to carry out technical tasks, ensuring the requirements are understood and the necessary activities are defined 

5. Ability to prioritize and manage data and information

6. Ability to work with IT tools and some level of programming skills
