About the Academy The Academy of Natural Sciences was founded in 1812 for "the encouragement and cultivation of the sciences".  Since then, it has sponsored global expeditions, conducted pioneering environmental and systematics research, and amassed remarkable collections containing more than 18 million specimens from around the world and a peerless library and archive. Since 2011 its academic enterprise has been further strengthened through its affiliation with nearby Drexel University - a leading private non-profit research institution that focusses on innovation and entrepreneurship and provides a unique cooperative education program for its undergraduate and graduate degree students. Job Summary The event support responsibilities vary from event to event. They serve in a variety of roles supporting the operations for event rentals, birthday parties and internal events at the museum. Event support roles include, but are not limited to; guest check-in, giving tours, running activities and assisting the event host for internal and external events. Event support staff will be prepped by the event sales team prior to each event so they are highly aware of the timeline and prepared to provide a great guest experience. They will report to the Event Host onsite day-of. Events typically occur on evenings and/or weekends. This is a customer service focused position. Note: If an Event Support staff member is currently employed by the Academy, working internal events may be included in other job responsibilities. Employees should clarify with their supervisor. Academy facility rentals are external events, are managed by the Events Team and require support staff on occasion. Essential Functions Visitor Services skills; interact with guests in a professional, courteous, and lively manner. Have accurate knowledge of the museum so that one can navigate, give tours and troubleshoot onsite. Outgoing, friendly personality. Interact and actively engage with event attendees in a professional, courteous, and lively way. Ability to work collaboratively with vendors and individuals across departments. Ability to handle a fast-paced environment. Willingness to work with people of all ages, including small children. Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned Required Qualifications Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 1-2 years of customer service experience. Preferred Qualification Available evenings and weekends. Location Center City, Philadelphia, PA.
