Job Description:

Under direct supervision, creates basic designs of communications systems overall plans, cable routing and conduit design, Wi-Fi and other wireless system models, cameras and access control systems, building automation systems, and other similar communications systems. Performs studies of cable routing and bandwidth load of communications systems, camera layouts, wireless bandwidth, communications cabling, fire alarm, security and other similar calculations. of basic complexity to meet client project requirements. Assists with the selection and specification of communications system components including: routers and switches, cameras and access control devices, Wi-Fi access points, etc. Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications. Updates design requirements as necessary. Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.. Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals. Performs other duties as required. May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD Electrical, OpenRoads Designer, OpenRail Designer, OpenTrack ) and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink)

-Experience in the transportation industry, particularly in rail systems, public transit, or intelligent transportation systems.

-Knowledge of railway signaling and train control systems.

-Experience with fiber optic communication systems and network design.

-Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and practices for transportation systems.

-Interests in voltage drop and conduit fill calculations

-Interests in roadway lighting, tunnel lighting, sign lighting, power distribution systems, Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV), dynamic message signs (DMS), Tri-message signs, Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), fiber optic networks, tunnel control systems (SCADA), traffic control systems, and incident detection systems

-interest and dc traction power substations and distribution systems, as well as load flow modeling.

Skills and Abilities:

Basic Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good verbal and written communication skills.

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

Additional Compensation:

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
