This Opportunity

Our Earth and Environment Team is seeking an Early Career Environmental Engineer to work out of our Lawrenceville, NJ, Blue Bell, PA, or Philadelphia, PA offices. 

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the development of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of air, water, and land resources. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

  • Under general supervision, collect and compile environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for engineering analysis.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.

  • Assist with performing basic professional environmental engineering work relating to air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources, and existing site conditions.

  • Office activities including engineering evaluations, cost evaluations, design support, preparation of bid documents and technical reports, etc.

  • Field activities including data collection, evaluation, and documentation.

  • Workload is expected to occur 25% in the office and 75% in the field to local and regional locations with some overnight travel.

  • Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure.

  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.

  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

  • This position has straight time overtime eligibility.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus but not required.

  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
