Temple University Community Navigator in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Salary Grade:  T24 Hourly Rate: $24/hr Job Summary: Temple University receives multiple inquiries from residents and community groups that span a spectrum. The Navigators will manage external requests from individuals and organizations that are seeking volunteers from the university, programs for school-aged children, support for community events, access to non-credit training programs, for employment opportunities, etc.  Navigators are well-informed and appropriately refer community residents to programs, services, and opportunities which available throughout Temple University's Main and Health Sciences campuses and through community partners.

The Navigators at Temple University are also responsible for implementing effective outreach, which includes representing the university at meetings, tabling at events in the community, etc.  Navigators employ authentic community engagement strategies, and are expected to handle inquiries respectfully, conduct initial assessments thoughtfully, determine goals and needs, refer individuals to appropriate services/programs, as well as provide follow-up services to community-residents, particularly in zip codes 19121, 19122, 19123, 19125, 19130, 19132, 19133, and 19140.  The Navigators also track outcomes. Performs all other job-related duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience:

*High school diploma or GED *At least 3 years of directly related experience in community organizing, community outreach and engagement, human services, or a related field. *An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills and Abilities: *Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint or comparable software. *Demonstrated commitment to service. *Experience of working with a variety of different stakeholders, including residents, local groups, and organizations. *Strong oral and written communication skills including presenting, facilitation, and relationship building, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of residents, staff, and students. *Demonstrated organizational, problem solving, and management skills. *Ability to handle issues which are broad and complex.

Preferred: Previous case management experience, such as doing intake, goal setting, making referrals and follow-up. *Strong established relationships with community residents, leaders, and organizations in North Philadelphia preferred.

*A self-motivator who can be both autonomous and collaborative in their approach to achieving departmental goals.

*A critical thinker with experience encouraging teamwork and innovation through adaptability, flexibility, and diplomacy.

*Ability to perform high-level customer service and conflict resolution when necessary

*Bilingual - Spanish preferred *Residency in 19121,19122, 19123, 19125, 19130, 19132, 19133, or 19140
