This program immerses students into the daily operation of a contemporary media and technology company while working side-by-side with Comcast’s top innovators. The student becomes an integral part of the Comcast team working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units.

Organization & Team Overview

Comcast AI Technologies team is an innovative research group within Comcast’s Technology & Product organization with offices in Washington DC and Philadelphia. We do groundbreaking research to support the development of novel Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning based products for Comcast’s millions of consumers.

Role Description

Are you interested in pushing the boundaries of conversational AI and shaping the future of customer interactions? Are you eager to apply your expertise in training large language models to real-world problems? Do you thrive on challenges and aspire to make a tangible impact on customer experiences? If you're passionate about driving real-world impact and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment and have experience in at least one or more of the following areas – Semantic Parsing for Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Aligning LLMs for task-oriented dialogue/Conversational Agents, Evaluation with and for LLMs – we invite you to bring your expertise to our team!

We are seeking a talented researcher to join our team in tackling applied challenges within the realm of training large language models and enhancing conversational AI. You will be part of a team focused on the development, training, and testing of large-scale models, emphasizing latency, quality, safety, and cost reduction.

The expected output of an internship is a proof-of-concept implementation leading to both impactful production-level deployments and a scientific publication and/or a patent application.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop algorithms for generating diverse and contextually appropriate dialogues to improve conversational agents.

  • Investigate methods for generating coherent multi-turn conversations to enhance the naturalness of conversational agents.

  • Create simulated evaluators or judges to provide feedback on conversational bot performance.

  • Develop ML methods to identify and collect high-quality training data for conversational agents.

  • Explore techniques for dynamically adapting data collection strategies based on model feedback and performance metrics.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Skills

  • Enrolled in a university PhD program (strong MSc students are also welcome to apply), with 2+ years research experience in NLP and/or Information Retrieval

  • Good programming and software development skills

  • Comfortable working in an interdisciplinary, team-oriented, applied research environment.

  • Preferred Majors: Computer Science

Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements

  • Returning to degree-program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the summer internship (meaning, student must be returning to school for Fall 2025 semester before graduating)

  • Available to work 40 hours per week over the course of the summer program- June 2 through August 15, 2025

  • Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs

  • Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting (unless virtual offering)

Salary:

Base Pay: $55.00
