The Cigna Group Clinical Strategy and Operations Managing Director- Cigna Healthcare in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

OVERVIEW/DESCRIPTION:

As a member of the Cigna Healthcare (CHC) Senior Clinical Leadership team, this role will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Cigna Healthcare and will be responsible for driving and supporting the development and execution of business priorities and goals.

Key accountabilities for this role include:

  • Serves as a critical business partner and advisor to the CHC CMO, working in close partnership with the CHC Clinical Senior Leadership team, key matrix partners, finance and human resources.

  • Acts as a connector within CHC Clinical and to U.S. Employer and other CHC businesses to ensure business challenges are prioritized, addressed and escalated appropriately, provide strategic guidance and counsel on organizational imperatives, align the leadership team, and drive the appropriate flow of decisions and information in furtherance of strategy execution.

  • Serves as proxy for the CHC CMO on vital matters within the organization on cross-business/functional priorities and strategic initiatives.

  • Drives and is accountable for the execution of annual CP&Q strategic and operating plan, roadmap, project efforts, and major initiatives.

  • Acts as a conduit between CP&Q and all enterprise business units including all related CHC partners to ensure business unit specific strategic and enterprise priorities are prioritized, preserved and upheld.

  • Drives the CHC clinical organization agenda and priorities forward and draws connections between departmental initiatives.

  • Lead and develop internal teams within CHC clinical to support clinical and leadership needs .

  • Represents CP&Q in any portfolio and prioritization activity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy: Act as a thought partner and leader to the CMO, partnering on how to advance CHC’s clinical strategy in areas of value-based care, patient and provider experience, total cost of care management, and clinical innovation. Assists in the content creation for key communication materials to be used internally and externally.

  • Possess and communicate deep industry knowledge of and experience in value-based care, population health, technology, data, analytics and innovation to help advance the organization’s position.

  • Leverage prior strategy and consulting experience to support the development and socialization of new clinical strategic priorities.

Business Operations Leadership: Work collaboratively with the CP&Q Senior Leadership team and key leaders across CHC to drive execution against CP&Q goals. Serve as key business partner to CHC CMO. Monitors information flow; sometimes acting as a consultant to ensure the involvement of the CMO in a project or decision-making process, is at the right moment.

  • Develop a deep understanding of CHC and the broader health care ecosystem to inform strategy, actions needed from the team, and highlight/enable engagement efforts for leadership.

  • Establish strong working relationships and develop a high level of credibility across the business, including other CHC Chiefs of Staff and SLT leaders, and with matrix partners.

  • Lead within a matrixed environment, including internal associates, external partners and consultants throughout the Cigna enterprise.

Team Development and Management: Manage a portfolio of internal teams that support the CHC clinical strategy and operations, including those focused on special projects and strategy, program operations, communications and medical writing, insights and analytics, and administrative support.

Management Process & Operating Model: Owns coordination/curation of management process; responsible for ongoing implementation, adherence, revisions, etc. Oversees team meetings, strategic areas of focus across the team and governance for CP&Q in partnership with the CMO and the rest of the CP&Q Senior Leadership team.

  • Facilitate and coordinate identification and fulfillment of key deliverables/objectives to drive incremental progress toward annual goals and programmatic initiatives.

  • Maintain business scorecard to assess the company’s operational and strategic performance

  • Ensure leaders are prepared for Operating Reviews and Business Reviews. Hold prep sessions, provide templates and compile materials as necessary.

  • Act as a connection point among business leadership, providing proactive identification of opportunities and issues that could impact the successful execution of commitments.

  • Clarify actions to accurately meet the needs of CP&Q, CHC, and Cigna recognizing the importance of good judgment and active communication in a dynamic and matrixed environment.

  • Own and drive adoption of governance around CP&Q management processes.

  • Owns all leadership and cross function forums for CP&Q – forum/meeting management, including agenda setting, facilitation, and action item resolution.

Communications: Partners closely with Communications team on overall communication strategy. Assists in the content creation for key communication materials to be used internally and externally. Support the development of executive audience materials as required, leveraging SMEs and Communication partners.

  • Strong persuasion skills and effective communicator; ability to create and communicate a compelling vision internally and externally.

  • Partner with the CP&Q and Corporate Communications teams to support the development and execution of the communication plan, including town halls, emails, etc., to ensure all levels of the organization are familiar with the business strategy, as well as understand our progress/results and how each individual is connected to achieving the business goals.

  • Embrace the challenge of leveraging short- and long-term enterprise milestones to the immediate business needs and operational demands of CP&Q and related partners

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10-15 years of related work experience required; prior experience as a strategic chief of staff for a business unit preferred; consulting experience preferred; advanced degree desirable.

  • Emotional Intelligence – Demonstrated strong EQ as evidenced by the ability to understand other people, what motivates them and how to work cooperatively with them. Proven track record of resilience, empathy, strong listening skills and the ability to work through challenging business situations in a highly collaborative way to drive the right business outcomes.   • Fundamentals - Experience with SharePoint & WebEx Meetings required. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Matrix Management/Relationship Building – Enterprise thinker with proven ability to influence across a matrixed environment. Ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization, and with external partners.

  • Communication - Strong persuasion skills and effective communicator; ability to create and communicate a compelling vision internally and externally.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 201,400 - 335,600 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
