WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview): Under general guidance, perform and explain apheresis procedures to remove and replace blood for collection or treatment purposes. Provide support to Clinical Services Staff.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities): Perform all phases of therapeutic apheresis procedures (plasma exchanges, red cell exchanges, platelet and white cell reductions, photopheresis, and hematopoietic progenitor cell collections) to ensure safe and appropriate care of the patient. Report patient status relative to therapeutic apheresis, before and during procedures, including blood test results and other clinically significant procedures. Explain, as needed, clinical apheresis procedures to patients and their families and other attending healthcare professionals. Coordinate closely with hospital staff at a variety of hospitals to arrange therapeutic apheresis treatments and coordinate apheresis with other procedures as necessary. Evaluate patient medication for the safety of the apheresis procedure. Assemble, restock, perform quality control, and maintain supplies and equipment in a state of readiness to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. May operate American Red Cross vehicles.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications): Current Medical Technologist (MT) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) depending on requirements of state legislation. 1 year of apheresis or dialysis experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Good vein selection and venipuncture skills are essential. Good verbal communication and customer service skills and the ability to effectively discuss procedures and medical issues with patients, families, and physicians. A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required. Must work independently with attention to detail. Ability to work on a team. Travel is required.
