We are currently seeking to fill our Assistant Director, Environmental Health and Safety position at the Philadelphia campus with a highly qualified and passionate individual.

Job Title: Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety Department: Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Reports To: Chief Occupational and Environmental Safety Officer Location: Philadelphia FLSA: Exempt, Full-timePosition Summary The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time exempt Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety. This position aims to continually improve all programs related to environmental health and occupational safety, including but not limited to: fire safety, laboratory safety, OSHA compliance, chemical/biological waste control and disposal, accident and injury investigation and reduction, safety training, and industrial hygiene. The Assistant Director oversees all equipment for compliance and develops organization-wide programs to preserve the environment and protect the health and safety of employees and the public.Duties and Responsibilities: Promote a Culture of Safety: Work closely with campus departments, facilities management, public safety, and external agencies to coordinate safety initiatives and ensure campus-wide cooperation. Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across various departments and facilities. Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks. Compliance Management: Ensure the college complies with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other relevant regulatory requirements. Maintain records and documentation for all safety-related activities and inspections. Safety Program Development: Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with applicable regulations and promote a safe campus environment. Training and Education: Design and deliver safety training programs for faculty, staff, and students. Ensure all campus personnel are informed and trained on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and hazard communication. Emergency Management: Respond to emergencies or incidents at PCOM that require EHS assistance. Must be able to promptly respond in person, on-site, to after-hours emergencies. Workers Compensation: Administer Workers Compensation claims. Perform and assist in the investigation of injury incidents that occur to employees and visitors, administering preventive remedies to mitigate recurrence. Laboratory Access: Administer access control program to research laboratories.Key Competencies: Current knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and NFPA laws and requirements. Can identify program gaps and propose innovative solutions. Subject to 24-hour callback for chemical spills and emergencies. Aptitude to make decisions based on knowledge of departmental procedures and prioritize tasks. Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills. Quickly and accurately follows written or oral instructions. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.Physical Requirements: Must possess the necessary physical ability to perform duties (e.g., wear a respirator, climb stairs/ladders). Must have sufficient mobility, dexterity, and endurance to perform emergency response and fieldwork.Education and Experience Needed: Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific field. Five (5) years of experience in the comprehensive practice of environmental health and safety programs. Preferred: Certification by a nationally recognized organization (CIH, CSP, CHMM, PE). Two (2) years of experience in a university or research setting.

The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting.
