A Brief Overview This is a full-time Monday-Friday position (5 days per week) and will include overnight and weekend on call responsibilities. The Cardiovascular Clinical Technician is responsible for multifaceted equipment support, the coordination of lifesaving material and providing direct clinical aid for all cardiac, anesthesia-related areas within the institution. Responsibilities include: checking for proper function and calibration of complex life support equipment, assembly of components for invasive monitoring and fluid delivery, maintenance of inventories and proper function of essential equipment. The technician must know and understand the basic anatomy of the cardiovascular system. He/she is expected to provide support to cardiac anesthesiologists, CRNA's, and Anesthesia trainee's during direct patient care and throughout the duration of procedures. This individual is expected to act as a role model and resource to junior anesthesia providers, core technicians and unit support staff.

What you will do Performs morning set-up: appropriate IVs, transducers, endotracheal tubes, and monitoring equipment (e.g. BP cuff). Handles turnover: remove dirty supplies, wipe down reusable equipment, set-up for next case. Performs end-of-day responsibilities: restock supplies in carts staying in room; set-up room for size of patient, whether it be for the last (if not stable) or the following day's case. Assures that all monitoring equipment is in working order. Acts as proactive liaison with other departments (e.g. Blood Bank, Pharmacy), when anticipating emergency needs and identifying working strategies to maximize patient safety and overall efficiency of care delivery. Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment and supplies to facilitate departmental function. Ensures specialized equipment is operational and in preferred location (US machines/glidescopes, etc.). Cleans, repairs and performs routine maintenance on anesthesia machines, cables, blood warmers, heating blankets, etc. Consults with Biomed as needed. Ensures OR's and workrooms are clean and orderly, reports to supervisor areas of environmental concern. Maintains appropriate supply and stock in anesthesia workroom, carts and OR's. Communicates to central supply the need to replenish items. Applies principles of Asepsis in a knowledgeable manner. Provides job specific guidance, mentoring and coaching during orientation of new employees. Provides technical support to anesthesia professionals for delivery of patient care. Assists anesthesia providers with induction, insertion of arterial lines, central venous catheters and attaches to transducers. Assists anesthesia providers in preparing intravenous drips of medications, sets up blood and crystalloids with appropriate filters, sets up pumping devices preparatory to infusion as instructed. Sets up and a taches blood warmers, blood pumping apparatus, and infusion devices. Follows clinical lab protocols/standards for handling blood and specimens. Provides transport of equipment and medications to and from pharmacy and OR to other anesthetizing locations. Adheres to JCAHO and OSHA standards. Follows department of Anesthesia and Cardiac OR policies and procedures. Maintains education and exercises understanding of cardiovascular system. Applies knowledge-in-training during stressful situations. Responsible for effectively operating lifesaving equipment.

Education Qualifications High School Diploma / GED Required

Skills and Abilities Ability to perform at a high-level within a consistently high stress environment. Ability to assess, anticipate, and establish priorities in the coordination and accomplishment of all duties. Understands basic anatomy of cardiovascular system. Detail-orientation. Knowledge and understanding of aseptic technique.

Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 6 months - Required
