The donor management center in conjunction with the surgical ICU has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Advanced Practice team in their very busy practice at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This new innovative team will provide quality care in the donor ICU in collaboration with surgical and anesthesia intensivists and other members of the health care team. This center aims to maximize successful organ donation.

Distinct functions of the position include: donor management, clinical decision making, bedside procedures (including central lines, arterial lines, and bronchoscopy), and palliative/end of life care discussion with family and staff.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role also involves participation in the Division’s Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and Unit-Based Clinical Leadership (UBCL). The APPs also attend weekly educational lectures focused on complex critical care management and the latest in evidence-based practice. Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications and involvement in department and hospital projects and committees.

Clinical work hours include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Credentials:

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Board certification in area of specialty

  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, M.H.S., and certification as a Physician Assistant.

  • Master’s degree required

  • Must have a strong clinical background in clinical specialty with management / supervisory experience preferred.

  • Two years of critical care APP experience is required.
