Robinson Construction Senior Estimator in Perryville, Missouri

Senior Estimator

This purpose of this position is to accurately quantify the cost of projects in order to capture profitable work in support of the company’s get work goals as well as supervise lower-level estimators in this pursuit.

Essential Responsibilities

• Attend pre-bid meetings, perform site assessments, and analyze specifications, statements of work, and other documentation to prepare thorough, accurate, and timely estimates of time, cost, and labor

• Provide high-level scoping of assigned projects

• Solicitation of subcontractors and suppliers, to include preparation of bid packages and analysis of proposals.

• Strategize an approach to be successful on assigned projects

• Material take-off and quantity surveying

• Develop and/or manage the development of preliminary bid/project schedules

• Assist in the development of written proposals

• Take projects to budget and turn over projects to construction

• Coordinate efforts of Field Engineers, Estimator 1, and/or Estimator 2 staff members and assemble into a cohesive estimate.

• Understand and apply means and methods

• Understand and apply productivity to work items

• Prepare estimates of medium to high complexity, up to $40M, with minimal or no oversight.

• Interfaces with A/E’s, contractors, and owners to provide cost data regarding project feasibility.

• Interfaces with owners, A/E’s, and Contractors during negotiation and contract execution.

• Responsible for review of final estimate and proposal to ensure accuracy and completeness.

• Implement training for new estimators under the direction of the Chief Estimator.

• Review bid documents for bids assigned to lower-level estimators under the direction of the Chief Estimator.

• Coordinate assistance from other departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Supervise the estimates of Field Engineers, Estimator 1, and Estimator 2.

• Create WBS and scope review for lower-level estimators.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent analytical and planning skills, good communication skills, and be knowledgeable and proficient with computers including spreadsheets, word processing, and database software systems. A good background in Timberline estimating is preferred.

• Ability to estimate multiple projects simultaneously with proven time management skills. Ability to work independently or as a member of a team. Attention to detail and proven problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated experience estimating a broad range of subcontracted and self-perform work activities with an emphasis in the following project types: Industrial, Healthcare, Commercial, both Public and Federal Healthcare/Institutional.

• Understand the construction business, including categories of cost, gross profit, and the impact of self-perform vs. subcontracting on company profit margins.

• Understand market conditions and price for projects and vendor pricing.

• Leadership skills required and proven ability to lead a small team to successfully achieve a common goal.

• Familiarity with MF2014

• The capacity to develop into a Chief Estimator

Education

• B.S. Degree in Construction Management and/or Engineering or eight (8) years of construction experience or equivalent background is required.

• Six (6) years of construction estimating experience is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
