Job Summary:

As a Sr. UX/UI Designer for eCommerce, you will be a major contributor to the development and optimization of our eCommerce experiences across a multitude of technology platforms. Through ability to design frictionless digital experiences, you will help empower Caterpillar customers to purchase the products they need to manage their business more efficiently.

With a focus on top-notch UI design and specification, this position will be responsible for delivering great user experiences for the developers, and product owners, who use our solutions to drive business results.

This position will work with stakeholders, vendors, and partners, visualizing customer needs to build user experience strategy by applying human-centered design. Must have strong experience delivering strategic digital experiences across various digital channels.

What You Will Do:

  • Create the highest quality UI designs

  • Coach proper design practices

  • Advocate for design throughout the process

  • Contribute to the eCommerce strategy and roadmap

  • Advocate for user centered design through partnership with the UX research team

  • Envision and execute user experience improvements

  • Conceptualize and communicate design ideas to stakeholders of all levels within an organization.

  • Create wireframes, user flows, visual design assets, and interactive prototypes/high fidelity mockups.

  • Build the cross-functional community by planning and facilitating regular share-outs, Q&As, and Design workshops

  • Partner with UX research to maintain an aligned understanding of the current-state user experience, while continuously discovering opportunities to improve it

  • Understanding of overall customer needs and ability to have a holistic view of design and user experience; ability to deliver on short-term needs that fit into long-term vision.

  • Familiarity with design sprints and the agile methodology.

  • Actively and constantly collaborate with other employees including product owners, other designers, web and mobile engineers, quality-assurance engineers, leadership, and more.

  • Functions as enabler for individuals, who may or may not have worked together before, to solve a business problem or create critical experience(s).

  • Pull input from the whole team to formulate decisions and develop the output for the job/project.

  • Provide a supportive work environment for the team.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop others.

  • Manage one’s own development.

  • Interact with people from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.

  • Work within the team and beyond the team with contractors, hourly, salaried and management employees, suppliers, customers, and individuals working in many Caterpillar organizations.

  • Decisions may affect the job/project team, the division or business unit, suppliers, both internal and external customers, and the market.

  • Decisions may impact the entire product, process or factory, warranty, sales, and customers’ perceptions, and can cause an evolutionary change in the customer experience.

Expectations demand that jobs/projects be completed on time, independent of the hours required. Acknowledging trade-offs between time, resources and quality and raising the customers’ and management’s awareness of those trade-offs is essential. This role may be asked to travel internationally to collaborate with Caterpillar’s global UX design teams.

What You Will Have:

Web Software Design: Knowledge of web software design; ability to design, develop, maintain and enhance web-based or web-enabled software.

Human-Centered Design (HCD): Knowledge of Human-Centered Design model, principle, and concepts; ability to understand the perspective of people who experience a problem, their needs, and provide them with a solution which truly meets their needs effectively.

User Experience Design: Knowledge of user experience design tools, techniques and approaches; ability to design applications that are valued, positively perceived and used by clients.

User Interface Design: Knowledge of activities, practices, deliverables and considerations; ability to design effective graphic user interfaces for delivery of information to the client's desktop workstation.

Web Trends & Directions: Knowledge of web trends; ability to utilize a variety of web information and technical tools to apply web developing trends within the organizational infrastructure.

Considerations for Top Candidates:

  • Four-year college degree in Graphic, Interaction, Industrial, New Media or related Design, HCI (Human Computer Interaction), human factors/ergonomics or a related field OR equivalent working experience

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital eCommerce products on a variety of platforms, including web and mobile (iOS and Android) is required.

  • Experience in Information Architecture, Interaction Design, UI Design, UX Research, Customer Experience and/or User Experience is desired.

  • Experience within B2B eCommerce with specific knowledge of onsite Search, and B2B buying/shopping patterns

  • Exceptional design skills, production value and attention to detail are required.

  • Requires proficiency with Figma. We use Figma as our primary design tool, along with its enterprise design system library tools.

  • Experience with user interface design patterns and standard UCD methodologies across multiple platforms is required.

  • Requires ability to listen to customers and stakeholders to visually design new products and features.

  • Results-driven self-starter with a unique combination of technical knowledge, business acumen and strong general and emotional intelligence.

  • Deep knowledge of UX industry standards, usability, accessibility, trends in web and app design.

Summary Pay Range:

$108,360.00 - $176,040.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
