The Medium Wheel Loader (MWL) Product Group, part of Caterpillar’s Earthmoving Division (EMD), is seeking an innovative, self-starting, and motivated engineer to join our team as a Senior Performance Engineer . You will have the opportunity to help our customers build a better world by being responsible for the development, integration, validation, and maintenance of overall machine performance for the entire MWL product line. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Caterpillar to define requirements, develop solutions, and deploy integrated solutions that create differentiation and deliver superior performance for our customers. Furthermore, you will support the development of technology strategies, bringing together onboard and offboard data, to deliver unmatched fit for use, productivity, and efficiency to our global customers.
What You Will Do:
Define, plan, execute, and deliver machine level performance that meets the requirements for New Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), and product life-cycle support. Cascade requirements to engine and powertrain teams that enable optimized machine performance.
Develop control strategies and algorithms which optimize machine performance (productivity, efficiency, response, …), while integrating new technologies into the product line.
Utilize virtual product development tools to evaluate strategic future concepts (such as electric drivetrains, autonomy, …) and improve machine performance with existing drivetrain solutions.
Develop validation plans for machine performance through FMEAs and validation planning workshops
Support the commercial teams with information for product literature and specifications, information for value selling tools related to productivity and efficiency and competitive results, and answers to specific technical questions.
Support customers and machine factories through end of line testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of dealer support network inquiries.
Operate MWL machines to evaluate performance and user interface features
What You Will Have (Basic qualifications):
Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and progressive experience in an engineering position.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify critical gaps, next actions, and act to resolve issues with minimal oversight. An emphasis on initiative, data analysis, and strong technical insight.
Effective Communications: Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify problems, determine root causes, and develop solutions.
Technical Excellence: Must have experience in one of the following:
Control system development or familiarity with Simulink or other model based development tools
Medium Wheel Loader or other similar machines and customer applications
Powertrain development or integration including engine, transmission, or electrification
Top Candidates Will Have (Desired but not required):
- Simulation or hands on testing experience

5-10% international and domestic travel is expected.

Summary Pay Range:
$108,360.00 - $162,480.00
